FAQs
What is your mission?
To create an accessible, light-hearted platform that entertains and educates its listeners while celebrating and unpacking basketball on many levels - youth, club, high school, college, and professional. To share the perspectives of players, parents, coaches (including high level college, high school, and youth coaches), fans, and basketball “nerds” while showcasing and diving into the rich basketball culture in Marin County.
What are your episodes about?
Our podcast features far-reaching basketball content that focuses on Marin County basketball - past, present and future. Episodes typically kick off with a discussion of current basketball news and climate, a preview of the week ahead in Marin County hoops, a discussion of hoops terms and strategies, and humorous takes on the world. Each episode then features a guest - a current or former player, coach, or prominent figure in Marin basketball. Season 1 guests included Rick Winter (Founder of North Bay Basketball Academy), Chris Ballard (Sports Illustrated writer and journalism professor at UC Berkeley), Dan Dibley (long-time Bay Area radio and television sports talk personality), and Mike Pritchard (stand-up comedian, actor, and community leader).
Who is your audience?
Our listeners include Duffy’s mother, hoops junkies and fans, players (young and old), players’ parents, coaches, Marin County residents, Marin County natives who may have moved away but still fill a strong connection to this beautiful, special place, and (perhaps) even college coaches and scouts from Marin County and beyond.
What’s your format?
The Run TMC podcast is a weekly show from October to mid-May hosted by Dave Levine and Dustin (Duffy) Ballard with one to two guests per week. The podcast launched in October 2023 and has accrued 38 episodes, over 17,500 downloads (as of September 2024), and many thousands more streams.
Who are your hosts?
Dustin (Duffy) Ballard is a Marin local who played basketball at Marin Academy and NCAA Division 3 at Haverford College in Pennsylvania. Duffy has coached youth and high school basketball for years - he is currently an assistant varsity boys coach at Archie Williams High School. When he’s not coaching, Dr. Ballard is a physician at Kaiser. He is the author of two books and was the co-host and founder of a prior podcast, The Medically Clear Podcast which ran for over 2 years and accumulated over 10,000 listens.
Dave Levine is also a Marin local. Dave played high school basketball at Branson where he was a 3-year varsity letterman. He graduated from Stanford University (majored in english with an emphasis in creative writing) where he was the student manager/practice player for the nationally ranked Stanford women’s basketball team. He has two Final 4 rings and many bruises from the experience. Dave has also coached youth and high school basketball for decades, and is currently the assistant Vvarsity girls coach at San Domenico High School (Northern California Division IV champs in 2023; NCS D-V Champs in 2024), in addition to having a day job in finance. Dave has an MBA from UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. He writes long, marginally funny emails which his wife and daughters happily ignore.
